An IT issue at the airport's ATC meant all flights could arrive or depart from the facility.

Air travel have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport following a substantial ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

Every arrival and departure were stopped due to an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Operations Restart with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

That said, significant disruption are anticipated to affect schedules. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with numerous other services experiencing delays.

A spokesperson had previously estimated that dozens of flights could be affected.

"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.

Root of the Disruption

The problem was traced to the full ground stop to an technical fault with its air traffic control provider.

Travelers continue to be advised to check the status of their flight before heading to the hub as backlogs are cleared.
