Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver missed the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
