LA Dodgers Survive in Toronto to Force Winner-Take-All Game 7 in Fall Classic

This year's World Series is going to a decisive Game 7 after the Los Angeles Dodgers kept their title defense dreams intact on Friday with a three to one victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 6.

The reigning title holders halted Toronto’s late-game comeback with a dramatic game-ending twin killing, stunning a home crowd that had come ready to celebrate the city’s first title in over three decades.

Game 6 Summary

Los Angeles produced all of their scoring in the third inning. With two away, Shohei Ohtani was purposely passed before Will Smith doubled to left field to bring home Tommy Edman. Freeman earned a base on balls to load the bases, and Mookie Betts came through with a two-run single to the opposite field, giving the Dodgers a 3–0 advantage.

That key hit broke a postseason slump and revived the defending champions’ aspirations of becoming the first repeat World Series victors since the Yankees won three straight from 1998 to 2000.

Pitching Duel

Kevin Gausman had been dominant to that stage, fanning half a dozen of the initial seven Dodgers he confronted. He struck out eight through three innings, tying a Fall Classic record, but the third-frame rally proved decisive. The Toronto ace finished with 8 Ks over six innings, yielding three runs on three safeties and two walks.

Yamamoto, in contrast, was solid again under pressure. The 27-year-old right-hander outpitched Gausman for the second occasion in a seven days, giving up a single run on five base hits over six innings with six Ks. He boosted his record to four wins and one loss this postseason with a 1.56 ERA.

The only run against him came on George Springer two-out single in the third inning, scoring Addison Barger, who had hit a double previously in the frame. Springer’s hit provided a brief spark in his return to the lineup after sitting out a pair of contests with an oblique injury.

Bullpen Effort

From there, the Los Angeles relievers carried the load. First-year pitcher Justin Wrobleski escaped a tight spot in the seventh inning, and fellow rookie Rōki Sasaki pitched into the ninth inning before hitting Alejandro Kirk to start the frame. Barger followed with a double that got stuck under the left-center-field fence, obliging base runners to stay at second and third.

Glasnow, Los Angeles’ Game 3 starter, entered in a relief role and induced a popout before Giménez hit a line drive to left. Hernández caught the ball and threw to second base to retire Barger, sealing the victory and giving Glasnow his first career successful save.

Next Up: Game 7

The series now comes down to one game. Max Scherzer will start for Toronto, becoming the only living pitcher to pitch in multiple seventh games of the World Series after doing so in the 2019 season with the Nationals. The veteran signed a one-year deal to pursue another championship and has been a outspoken presence throughout this playoff run.

The Dodgers, looking to be the sport's initial repeat champions in almost 25 years, are projected to lean on Shohei Ohtani for a brief appearance.
