President Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Soldiers to the White House
Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president informed journalists. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Response
Attendees gathered over the weekend at a local school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid public safety in DC.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the individual that instructors hoped for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was kind, considerate and always ready to assist people.”
Memorial details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The tragedy led the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and cease providing entry permits to holders of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Morrisey said on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on the program that she planned to visit the family.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey told the audience at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
