The former Liverpool manager says rejoining to coach Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative near-decade reign which brought continental glory and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed England's top flight last season, but many fans holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the notion of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he shared with his interviewer: “I declared I refuse to lead another team within the country. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, so I might decide down the line, who knows. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations would have to unfold to bring him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing in the rain through long matches; I don’t miss going to interviews four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad having a nice chat, that’s nice. With many victories thus frequently positive atmosphere at the club. I can still hear the captain's chuckle vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him for the adjustments that won the league in the previous season. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in all competitions following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the notion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong balanced team. No need for concern over the club, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, and its impact at the club. Jota lost his life in a vehicle collision alongside his brother in July.
“Can you substitute such an individual? It’s not about the player himself, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the dressing room missing him. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. A devastating blow for all the boys also. No one within the club might employ it for poor performances but it is the situation. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Dealing with that individually is challenging. Overwhelming.”
