The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
