Diplomatic Moves and International Reactions

An ex- American diplomat, Dan Fried, commented, "Putin is attempting to derail the progress toward greater sanctions on Russia." Fried continued, "We'll see on Friday, but the chances of moving toward a truce by pressuring Russia to engage sincerely seem to have diminished."

European Energy Restrictions and Economic Effects

A large-scale Russian unmanned aircraft and rocket assault targeted gas facilities in Ukraine's eastern regions on the same day, causing outages in multiple regions. Ukrainian officials reported that Russian forces deployed hundreds of unmanned vehicles and dozens of projectiles, along with aerial munitions.

The proposed system, called the "European drone defence initiative," is expected to start operations in its first phase by the 2026 timeline and be fully functioning by the following year. EU authorities hopes to obtain the support of member state representatives at a meeting in the coming days.
